MANCHESTER, UK—Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted the matinee audience at the Palace Theatre on Jan. 16 with an all-new production.

Tina Knight, who owns a children’s nursery, and her husband Phill Knight, who provides kid-proof clothing for nurseries, pre-school, and forest schools, were thrilled to see Shen Yun.

Mrs. Knight said, “It’s beautiful. It’s beautiful, absolutely beautiful. We’re delighted that we came. Absolutely.”

Mr. Knight was impressed with Shen Yun’s patented 3D animated screen that interacts with the characters. “I love the screen at the back. That’s very clever,” he said.

The Knights raved about the dancers and the different dances from Chinese culture. “It’s magical,” Mrs. Knight said, “the way that they move, their expressions. It’s quite moving, actually.”

“So many different dances, as well. There’s so many from different areas of China,” Mr. Knight said. “I’ve  never been to China, so for me, it’s a really nice shot of the whole country.”

Mrs. Knight said she favored traditional Chinese culture before communism.

“I much prefer the traditional culture. It’s absolutely beautiful. And the fact that Chinese culture used to be about how you connect with the earth and you look at the divine, and how they interlink, and how they were together,” she said. “It’s so sad to see that isn’t like that today. So for us, it was magical. We had a beautiful day today.”

With a profession in caring for children, Mrs. Knight noted the educational value of the stories in the performance.

“[They are] massively educational. I'll definitely go back. We look after young children, so we are very into mindfulness meditation and things like this. It’s going back to how it used to be. Coming here today and seeing this is just so beautiful, she said.

Mrs. Knight was touched by the persecution in China of Falun Dafa, a meditation practice.

“Absolutely everything you’re doing today is just so beautiful and not what we thought China was,” she said. “It’s actually very emotional for us. I think really this should be … It'd be great to go into schools.”

“I just think it’s a good thing for maybe to do performances, for children to come and watch from schools because this isn’t the China we know. This is a beautiful China.”

Mrs. Knight hoped that Shen Yun’s message could reach everyone.
“I think the whole world is changing, and this is more how we want the world to be, [including] culture, community, tradition, family—massively family—and community. This is such a beautiful thing, and the professionals in [Shen Yun] are just so beautiful.”

Theatergoer Honored to See Shen Yun, While China Can’t

Muna Khan, who works for the British government, could feel the energy from the performance. “It’s very uplifting,” she said. “It’s beautiful, it’s moving, and it’s quite emotional.”

China has enjoyed a culture of 5,000 years before communism, built on a deep belief that those who lead a virtuous life will be blessed by the divine.

“I can identify with that, yeah, being religious myself. It’s nice to see [Chinese culture] before communism and, most importantly, you can’t do this in China,” Ms. Khan said.

Since the Chinese Communist Party’s takeover in 1949, these traditional values have been undermined and replaced with atheism. Shen Yun is banned in China.

“So it’s quite an honor to be able to see this performance, and all the hard work you’ve all put into this to raise awareness as well,” she said.

Ms. Khan had encouraging words for the performers. “I think they’re amazing. They’re just so athletic and artistic, and they’ve worked hard. I can see that.  They’re just so beautiful.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts is now touring its all-new 2025 production to over 200 cities across five continents, proving to be its most engaging ever.
