GREENSBORO, N.C.—In order to appear graceful on stage, dancers go through strenuous training. Michelle Miller was amazed at the masterful control that Shen Yun’s dancers had.

“I’m amazed at all of the hard work. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. Just the way that they can have control over their bodies and express themselves through dance was really inspiring,” said Ms. Miller, a former music teacher.
Ms. Miller was at the performance with her daughter, Eleanor. Both mother and daughter were highly impressed with the way New York-based Shen Yun used its digital backdrop.

“I thought it was really well done. I had never seen the effects where they go onto the screen and then come back. I read about it in the program, and I was amazed by it. I thought it was cool. My daughter kept asking, how does that happen?” shared Ms. Miller.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization and that includes the deep belief in the divine that once permeated through every dynasty and region.
“I loved seeing the culture and learning more about traditional Chinese culture,” said Ms. Miller.
China was once known as the land of the divine. However, when the Chinese Communist Party took power, atheism became the state-sponsored belief. Shen Yun is using its art to remind audiences that atheism has no base.

“I really loved the idea that there isn’t a base in atheism, that we do have a creator, and we might disagree on who that creator is, but I think we can agree there is a creator and that he loves us and wants what’s best for us,” said Ms. Miller.

Out of all the instruments in Shen Yun’s orchestra, the erhu, a two-stringed instrument, gets its moment to shine on stage. Ms. Miller shared that she thoroughly enjoyed the erhu solo.

“I loved the erhu because I had never heard that instrument performed. And it was just beautiful,” she said.

Just as Ms. Miller shared Shen Yun with her daughter, many audience members are eager to share Shen Yun with their friends and family.

“I would definitely recommend this to my friends. It’s very beautiful,” she said.
