TORINO, Italy—Parliament technician Filadelfio Contino and his sister, Marila Contino, a retired state official, attended Shen Yun’s evening performance at Teatro Regio Torino on Jan. 10. The siblings traveled especially from Rome to Torino to see the performance after discovering that tickets in the Italian capital had sold out.

At the end of the evening, they happily agreed that the performance was a resounding success and wished to extend their sincere congratulations to the artists.

Mr. Contino loved how well every performance aspect—such as the dancers, the orchestra, and the 3D backdrop—was coordinated. He thought it must have required much time and hard work from the artists to achieve such perfect synchronization.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s top classical Chinese dance and music company. Presenting a brand-new set of programs each year, the company has been delighting audiences worldwide since 2006.

In the decades since the communist regime seized power, Chinese culture was forced to the brink of extinction. The New York-based artists are now seeking to revive China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture and showcase to the world the beauty of China before communism.

“It was a very good choice. It’s really good,” Mr. Contino said, referring to the company’s mission to bring back traditional culture.

“When you get older, you appreciate [culture] more. Then it’s clear, it’s our responsibility to pass on the traditions, to pass on to future generations what we have learned and discovered as we got older. This is very good.”

Ms. Contino said she was impressed “by the kindness of the Chinese people and their long tradition.” She especially enjoyed the spiritual elements incorporated in the performance.

“[Faith] is very important and should accompany every human being because not everything is always so material,” she said.

“The world we are in now—we should rediscover these values of kindness, of grace, which has brought us good for so many centuries. Perhaps, by doing so, they will bring us good in future centuries as well.”

Also in attendance were Simone Marietta, a university professor, and Rafaella Gagliardi, a high school teacher.

“I’ve been amazed by the beauty of this show. It’s incredible, it’s something I’ve never seen before,” Ms. Gagliardi exclaimed.

“I was impressed by the balance with [the dances] showing power, beauty, and liveliness. [The dancers] don’t even seem human. They’re not heavy; they fly when they dance and have such an openness to their movements. It’s like they’re creatures in the sky.”

She loved that Shen Yun “gave us the opportunity to see some aspects of China that we don’t know.”

Mr. Marietta thought Shen Yun’s mission was very noble and that it was important to revive traditional culture because “it’s part of your roots, which are very deep and profound.”

“I’d like to tell the performers that I appreciate the effort they’ve put into every single movement and action. They’re perfect,” he added.

Ms. Gagliardi, too, would like to thank the performers from the bottom of her heart.

“I haven’t felt such a deep emotion in a long time,” she said. “Thank you for the gift; it was an angelic show.”
