OXFORD, UK—Bryce Glover, a bank director, brought his daughter to see Shen Yun Performing Arts and thought the performance was “absolutely unmissable” for anyone.
“I think it’s absolutely brilliant, really colorful, energetic,” Mr. Glover said at the New Theatre on Jan. 24.
New York-based Shen Yun, the world’s premier classical Chinese dance culture, has a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through dance and music, and Mr. Glover said he believed they would be successful.
“It’s the right way to do it, and I think they'll be very successful,” he said. “It’s got such a good name and such a great reputation.”
The name “Shen Yun” translates as “the beauty of divine beings dancing,” a reference to the belief that traditional Chinese culture is a divinely inspired culture. Mr. Glover felt that came through in the elements of the performance, from the classical Chinese dance to the animated backdrop of Shen Yun’s own design.
“I think it comes through in everything that goes on. The whole mix is on earth, in heaven, transition between the two, and you get that, and the dancing is just so incredible,” he said.
“Just the skill of the dancing and the vibrancy of the colors ... I love the way the animation at the back fits in with the dancing. I think that’s absolutely superb,” he said.
“And for somebody in the audience watching, it’s utterly, utterly brilliant,” he said.
