NEW YORK CITY—Luis Guzman thought it was great that Shen Yun Performing Arts was able to open up the Chinese culture to the world, and believed the performing arts group would only grow in success.
“I love it. Obviously this is a show that’s going to prevail for many years. I think the American people really react to it a lot. And I think hopefully it can grow all over the place. That would be great,' said Mr. Guzman, who is in wealth management, after seeing the performance on March 30 at Lincoln Center.
“The show was really remarkable,” Mr. Guzman said. “From the point of view of the dancing, you can see the choreography was really impressive. And I think even the actors have this amazing glance of smiling while they’re performing. So it was really fun. It was something completely new to me and I loved it. It was really great.”
He described stories about love and overcoming all odds, taking from the performance a message of “patience” and “love.”
“Everything is possible. Right? In love, everything is possible,” he said.
“It’s showing a different side of China, which is lovely to see really,” he said of Shen Yun. Each year’s program is composed anew, but Shen Yun performances always include ethnic and folk dances from some of China’s 50-plus ethnic minorities, and stories spanning five millennia of Chinese civilization.
