NEW YORK CITY—Henry Perry was uplifted by Shen Yun Performing Arts, describing the vibrant performance as an informative and important one.

“It was a sophisticated glimpse into Chinese culture and the change that occurs and the learning that everyone could have through dance and arts,” said Mr. Perry, a doctor and chief of the corneal department at a hospital. He saw Shen Yun on March 30 at Lincoln Center, where the New York-based classical Chinese dance company is performing for another two weeks.

“I liked the vibrancy of the performance. I liked the movement, the colors, and I liked the restoration of history as it went through the different stages of the Chinese story. And I thought it was a well-thought-out, well-presented, and uplifting performance,” Mr. Perry said.

Founded in America in 2006, Shen Yun is the world’s top classical Chinese dance company. Through music and dance, Shen Yun’s mission is to show audiences the beauty of China before communism.

Mr. Perry thought that it would be difficult for the regime to continue to stifle the traditional culture, and what it has done in the past.

“History is critical for us all. Because it keeps repeating itself again and again,” he added.

Entrepreneur Steve Scala also appreciated seeing Shen Yun bring 5,000 years of Chinese civilization to life on March 30.
“And the thing I don’t understand is why you wouldn’t allow this [in China],” Mr. Scala said. He added that he could see the spiritual and religious aspects of the traditional culture and could imagine why the communist regime would be against it, but hoped Shen Yun could perform in China.

“I think something so beautiful, you should let it be,” he said. “I enjoyed it, I truly did.”

“I was in awe because I didn’t expect it to be as enjoyable for me. And it really was. It was easy to follow. That back screen I loved. I thought that was just so classy, the way they were jumping back and forth between the stage and the screen. It was really breathtaking,” he said.
