NEW YORK CITY—Lou Imbroto, a lawyer and councilmember of a Long Island town, found an uplifting message in Shen Yun Performing Arts.
“I thought the show was beautiful, the dancing, the costumes were amazing, and I really enjoyed the message. I thought that it was very spiritual, and affirming of life, and belief in God. I really enjoyed that,” said Mr. Imbroto, who enjoyed Shen Yun on March 29 with Ms. Christi Kunzig, a lawyer, at Lincoln Center.
“I thought it was beautiful, the dancing was amazing, the costumes were spectacular, and the music was fantastic,” Ms. Kunzig said. “It was very vibrant, the dancing was very interesting, and it was fun.”
“I think it’s beautiful. I think it’s unfortunate that it’s been suppressed, and I hope that Shen Yun is successful in reviving it,” Mr. Imbroto said.
“I think this is much better. I think that we would rather see something like this than see communism in China.”
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that teaches the three principles of truth, compassion, and forbearance, which a character in Shen Yun’s dance vignette displayed on a banner.
“ I think those are words that we should all live by,” Mr. Imbroto said.
“I think that truthfulness is something that we should always aspire to. I think that compassion is something that could make the world a better place, and I think forbearance makes us much stronger,” he said. “So I think that that’s a universal message, and I think that it’s something that we should be bringing to as many people as possible.”
“So that’s why I really love this show. I love how many people come to see it. A full house today, and they’re all getting that positive message that hopefully can make the world a better place,” he said.
“I think this is much better. I think that we would rather see something like this than see communism in China,” Mr. Imbroto said. “My big takeaway is that I think that in China, they really have to move away from communism and go back towards their traditional culture.”
Mr. Imbroto said he thought the artists were very brave, and that sent a message as well.
“I think any time you’re standing up for what you believe in, and any time that you’re being opposed by a powerful entity, especially when they’re threatening your life or threatening your family, I think that it’s very brave, and I think it’s important,” he said. “I think that it’s something that we should all be doing in our day-to-day lives, no matter what threats we face, no matter what we have to stand up to, I think we need to stand up for what we believe in.”
“I loved the costume design, I loved the choreography, and I loved the colors. Everything was so colorful, and the way that they used the special effects, and the technology, and they integrated it into the performance. I’ve never seen anything like that before,” he said.
