LOS ANGELES—After taking in Shen Yun Performing Arts on March 22, at the Nokia Theatre, Bill Givens, a Hollywood-based entertainment journalist and television writer, said the production was “one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen in my life.”

“It was just stunning. The talents of the dancers and the beauty of the costumes and the music … it’s a tremendous experience,” he said.

Based in New York, Shen Yun aims to revive China’s divinely inspired culture. Through Shen Yun’s productions, China’s legends and historic figures come to life on stage with breathtaking dance and music performances, as well as hundreds of colorful costumes, a state-of-the art animated digital backdrop, and other props.

“I loved it very much. I like the interaction of the history with the dances, I learned a lot of Chinese history, which is very good. I knew some, but I learned a lot,” said Mr. Givens. “I was sorry that it was over.”

The author and journalist, who is regularly featured on prominent TV shows and publications, said he enjoyed the storytelling through the dances and learned a lot from them.

“I learned so much when I saw so much Chinese history in customs and the music and everything,” he said, adding that the techniques of the dances were extraordinary.

“All the tumbles and spins and things like that were just mind blowing.”

According to the Shen Yun website, “Known for its incredible flips and spins, and its gentle elegance, [classical Chinese dance] is one of the most rigorous and expressive art forms in the world.

Mr. Givens said he wished his friends could also see Shen Yun’s performance, as it features “the most beautiful things that they will ever see in their lives.”
