NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.— The day was perfect for the audience to appreciate an all-new Shen Yun Performing Arts performance at the State Theatre New Jersey on March 23. Kurt and Marge Grimm thoroughly enjoyed many aspects of Shen Yun’s performance.

Mr. Grimm, owner and board chairman of a manufacturing company, said, “The dancing is fabulous; the animation is wonderful.” His company makes machine parts and assemblies for the aerospace and defense industries.

New York-based Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization—China before communism.

The Grimms subscribe to The Epoch Times, which keeps them informed about the persecution of people of belief in China. They are familiar with the terrible practice of organ harvesting by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which continues today.

Some of the dancers and performers have experienced religious persecution in China, which Shen Yun shines a light on. There have also been bomb threats at performance venues in the United States, Mrs. Grimm observed. “The CCP has a long arm.”

“It’s very courageous because the reach of the CCP is far beyond just Asia,” Mr. Grimm said. “To go up there and be part of this, and to call out the persecution of the organ harvesting like that, it’s very brave. Very brave.”

“I think it’s hard to explain [what the performers are going through] because it’s very dangerous for them, really. Because even though they’re here in the United States, they’re still at peril,” he said.

Mrs. Grimm, who works with her husband, liked the presentation of China’s history and the talent of the dancers. “The costumes, the [dancers] are so limber, what they can do as they’re dancing,” she said.

Mr. Grimm thought the revival of traditional culture, such as in Shen Yun, “extremely important, especially now with the geopolitics.”

“It’s good for us, the American people, to see the culture of China, not just the politics that we see, which is not good right now with the Communist Party,” he added.

Mrs. Grimm thought that Shen Yun conveyed that “China is a good place. It has a good history and good people.”

“I think the most important thing is for the world to see that the culture is not just the current politics. That the culture goes back 5,000 years,” Mr. Grimm said.

A scene in the performance shows the Creator coming from the heavens to save people. Mr. Grimm felt the connection with his own beliefs. “It’s a common theme for Christianity and many religions really, to have a Creator and come down from heaven. That was the story of Christ, to bring peace to earth. So similar; different culture, but similar narrative,” he said.

Mr. Grimm enthusiastically recommended Shen Yun to friends and family. “I’m going to say, ‘Come and see the show, and enjoy the culture. See something you’re not familiar with and learn a little bit.’”
