WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Martha Boneta Fain felt inspired and invigorated seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts, finding in the performance a message of hope and perseverance.

“I thought it was an incredibly inspiring, beautiful performance. The colors were spectacular. The performers were incredible. It was mesmerizing and magical,” said Mrs. Fain after seeing Shen Yun at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts–Dreyfoos Hallon on March 19. Mrs. Fain is a lawyer and government affairs strategist, as well as a national commentator.

“And there’s so much there. The message is so powerful. And it was so beautiful at the same time. I feel invigorated. And it’s the kind of performance you can see over and over again,” she said.

New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company.
Through music and dance, Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, sharing with audiences the beauty of China before communism.

“I think it is very hopeful,” Mrs. Fain said. “It’s a message of overcoming and it’s a message of hope really for the world.”

“In terms of telling stories and sharing messages and sharing values and thoughts ... this performance did it in such a beautiful, flawless way. It was really spectacular,” she said.

Mrs. Fain praised the artistry of the production, adding that as someone who often sees performances, few inspire her to want to immediately see it again or delve deeper the way Shen Yun did.

“It was not only visually beautiful, the music was incredible, but the costumes are authentic. And they were spectacular. It was absolutely beautiful,” she said.

“This is one where you can really go back and really try and dig deeper into the stories and see more about the meaning,” she said.

“I think everybody watching can capture something different, can get a different message perhaps. But for me, I thought what resonated with me in particular was overcoming obstacles in your life, and no matter how hard the struggle is, there’s still that future. There’s still that hopefulness of what lies ahead. And I thought that was a message that really spoke to me throughout the whole performance,” she said.

Mrs. Fain said that Shen Yun provides hope not just for the people in China who hold onto faith despite oppression by the communist regime but for people around the world.

“I think it provides hope for so many that maybe are struggling and being persecuted and it gives hope to so many and not just in China but really around the world where persecution lives and people aren’t free, whether it’s to practice their faith or to have freedom of speech or to live their lives in peace without the government and their everyday lives,“ she said. ”And so I think that from that perspective, that message resonates with people all over the world.”
