WASHINGTON, D.C.—Kamal Kamali felt perfection in Shen Yun Performing Arts, which moved him on a spiritual level.
He said the
performance gave him the “most unbelievable feelings regarding people, regarding life, which they performed very, very beautiful with music and lights and dance, dresses.”
“Everything was perfect,” said Mr. Kamali, a retired opera singer and now a musician and composer whose works are performed internationally. He saw Shen Yun at the Kennedy Center on Feb. 22 and said it took him through ancient China.
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company. Through
music and
dance, Shen Yun aims to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization, sharing with audiences the beauty of China before communism.
“It’s spiritual,” said Mr. Kamali, adding that this dimension of the performance had conveyed to him something profound.
Traditional Chinese culture is a divinely inspired culture, and ancient Chinese society was a
spiritual one that placed harmony between heaven, earth, and humankind at the center of teachings.
“It’s showing how you should be on the right way in life ... far from wars, just kindness, you know, beautiful life,” Mr. Kamali said. “It was very nice.”
As a musician who worked in theatrical productions, Mr. Kamali said he felt a sense of kinship and familiarity watching this production.
“Music was perfect,” he added. He said the
music of Shen Yun, which seamlessly blends East and West, had perfectly conveyed the sense of China. “They showed that very well.”
