HSINCHU, Taiwan—“I found that I need to sharpen my fundamental dancing skills after seeing the show,” said Chen Yuwen, former Chu Chien Talent Princess, after watching the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company’s premiere at Hsinchu on March 19.
“It was so wonderful and touching, I was deeply moved,” she said of Shen Yun’s repertory of ancient Chinese traditions in classical dance and music.
Ms. Chen added that her favorite program was the Dragon Springs Drummers.
“The movements were sharp and clear ... and very enlightening,” Ms. Chen said.
Fascinated by Shen Yun’s resplendent costumed dancers, a stage awash with color, lighting, music, dancing, singing, and in particular, the high-tech animated backdrops, Ms. Chen exclaimed, “Very outstanding and overwhelming.”
She is currently a student of the Hsuen Chuang University, and learned ballet dance at a very young age. She teaches belly and Latin dance as a part time job. In 2007, her excellent dance performance won her the title of Chu Chien Talent Princess.
Ms. Chen said that though she won the championship in the professional group of the Fourth Taiwan Belly Dance Tournament, she rarely saw performing arts with such profound cultural concepts.
As the winner of the city’s Dance championship, not only does she help Hsinchu City Government promote culture and the tourism industry, but also she acts as ambassador for other city activities.
