Music can bring families together, and this heartwarming video demonstrates the love a daughter and granddaughter have for their ailing Big Papa.

Singing to your loved ones when they are ill can bring comfort to everyone, and will be a lasting memory to be cherished, especially if the precious moments are captured on video. Our hearts may feel as if they are breaking, but our thoughts are focused on the one who needs us most, in this case, Big Papa.

Surrounded by his family and the glow of birthday candles, Big Papa celebrated his 91st birthday in bed.

As seen in the family video, which was uploaded late October 2018, his birthday cake with “Happy birthday Papa” decorated with icing sugar looks delicious.

Little children play around the edge of the bed, and Big Papa looks really cute in his pixie party hat, which perches atop his head.

Big Papa’s granddaughter, Kayla Hartman, and her mom chose a special way to let him know just how much he means to the family.

They decided to sing a county song called “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout The Good Old Days)” by the Judds, to sing at his bedside.

It’s a song that spirits one away to the days of old when life was still simple and pure—the days that only our grandparents seem to know about.

The intimacy and warmth of the atmosphere in the room was almost tangible as they sing in harmony to their sick papa.

As they sing, Big Papa’s eyes are fixed upon the faces of his family. He is smiling as he listens to the song and makes a remark here and there.

The family were there to tell him they cherished him.

Kayla breaks down in the middle of the song, and all she can do is kiss his fragile hands.

Afterward, Papa claps his hands together. His gesture shows them that he thinks they are great and that he thoroughly enjoyed the song.

Kayla uploaded the video on her Facebook page, and wrote:

“Being able to get this video is absolutely amazing. I break down in the middle, but he loves every minute of it!”

“Just want to thank everyone for the kid [sic] words and prayers that I have been receiving as Big Papa is still holding on strong for us. I’m so thankful I’m able to be right by his side through all of this. God bless you all,” wrote Kayla.

In fact, the video moved other viewers too.

“Had me bawling.....” wrote one YouTuber. “Very beautiful!”

“Made me cry,” added another.

Big Papa got his angel wings on Oct. 13, 2018, and passed away peacefully.
