A 98-year-old man’s love for his wife runs deep, and nothing could stop him from walking 6 miles to visit her in hospital.
Korean War veteran Luther Younger, of Rochester, New York, has the habit of walking everywhere.
And one Tuesday in mid-August 2018, he made his way to visit his wife of 50 years, Waverlee, at Strong Memorial Hospital, on foot.
Waverlee, who is paralyzed, has battled brain cancer since 2009.
In fact, the sprightly Younger, who’s just shy of being a centenarian, had been walking to and fro the hospital every day for the past two weeks.
That day, Younger started out from Chili Avenue, and when he was walking along the side of I-390, Dan Bookhard happened to drive past.
Bookhard saw Younger, and though he didn’t know the elderly man, he decided to give him a lift.
And despite Younger being 98 years young, he unwaveringly paid his dear wife a visit at the hospital, and said, “I ain’t nothing without my wife.”
“She’s the best cup of tea I ever had,” he added. “She would come in and kiss me and say ‘baby’ and feed me in the bed, and this is what I need right here.”
Ever sweeter, the devoted Younger would stay overnight in the hospital and wouldn’t leave his wife’s side.
“You know, he just wants the best for my mom,” Lutheta Younger said.
Without a doubt, for the sake of his wife, Younger will continue to go the extra mile.
Fortunately, all is well with Waverlee.
Waverlee, Godspeed in your recovery to full health!
The couple is living proof that pure love still exists.
