It’s not special breeding but a random quirk of nature that has given this adorable chimera cat from Eastern Europe her beautiful and unique look. Constantly likened to the famous supervillain Two-Face from the Batman comic book series—but infinitely sweeter—Yana has perfectly split facial markings.
“She is a mixture of a red dad with a black cat mom,” Yana’s owner, Elizabeth Rubashko, 28, from Belarus, told The Epoch Times.
“Someone even got a tattoo of my cat on their arm,” Ms. Rubashko said.
The web designer, who recently moved to Poland from Belarus, found Yana as a kitten when she spotted an advertisement placed by an elderly couple, and it was love at first sight. Her previous owners had started an Instagram page for Yana, whom they named in honor of the two-faced Greek god, Janus.
At first, Ms. Rubashko says, Yana resided at her mom’s house, but she was such a naughty kitten that Ms. Rubashko brought her to live in her own home: “... Yana tore her curtains and peed where she shouldn’t. My mom got a bit upset, saying she didn’t need such a destructive kitten, so I took Yana with me.”
These days, Ms. Rubashko laughs when she says she’s glad Yana shredded her mom’s curtains.
“If not for this incident, perhaps we wouldn’t have lived together because my mother and I were located in different cities,” she said.
The once energetic and mischievous kitten has now grown into a very gentle and affectionate adult cat.
“Previously, she was stand-offish, and she didn’t like it when we tried to pet her. Now, she happily lies in our arms and sleeps with us in bed on a pillow. We love her so much!” Ms. Rubashko said.
Besides having appeared in magazines and on television, the beloved Yana has fans all over the world. When Ms. Rubashko posted the cat’s image, she was getting a thousand new subscribers every day on her Instagram channel.
What Yana loves most in the world is to sleep, and every morning, she starts her day watching the little birds outside the window. And Ms. Rubashko says the sweet kitty seems to feel her owner’s mood:
“If I’m sad, she comes to comfort me, and if I’m in pain she starts meowing, fussing over me. One day when I hurt myself, Yana instantly came running from another room, calling loudly.”
