BUENOS AIRES—Nahuel Sotelo, Argentina’s Secretary of Worship and Civilization, was “blown away” seeing the 5,000 years of Chinese civilization brought to life by Shen Yun Performing Arts.
“It’s like a return to beauty, to that kind of art that takes you to another plane. Art as something spiritual, and also art as a path to spirituality. And of course—when you see things like this, it’s impossible not to feel something spiritual within you.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, with a mission to revive the traditional Chinese culture that was once nearly lost—or “China before communism.”
“If you don’t know where you come from, you’re going to get lost, or you won’t know where you’re heading. I think traditions and the roots of our own cultures—and of all world cultures—this cultural diversity, is essential for every nation,” he said.
He said he saw “values of freedom” in the performance that especially spoke to him. “And also the ongoing fight for freedom around the world.”
“Just come see it, really. Saying too much here might actually take away some of the magic, because honestly, you have to see it—you have to be there. I recommend it 100 percent, because it’s a show that brings you into history, into tradition, into God, into the spiritual. It’s incredibly complete. So I truly hope lots of people get the chance to come,” Mr. Sotelo said.
