Opera Director: Shen Yun Leaves Audience With Lingering Sensation

SUWON, South Korea—While touring South Korea, Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company staged its second performance at Gyeonggi Arts Center in Suwon City on the evening of Feb. 9. After watching the performance, Jung Okyong, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Opera said, “All of the dancers have admirable skills. The performance was not only rich in Chinese tradition but very humorous. It’s really full of fun, and made me feel very happy!”

Paying attention to all aspects of the Shen Yun performance, Jung Okyong said, “I am engaged in opera production, and therefore I particularly kept an eye on the stage arrangement, lighting, and actors’ skills. When viewing (Shen Yun) from a distance, I was surprised to find that the vivid and life-like stage effect was only made by a single digital dynamic backdrop.”

She added that she didn’t know the traditional Chinese culture could be so interesting and vivid, which left her a lingering sensation.

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 year of divinely inspired civilization and its virtues through the performing arts.

Among all the programs, she especially favored the piece of Sand Monk Is Blessed, saying, “The timing of Monkey King jumping out from the screen was so precisely and amazingly synchronized with the performance on the stage! Also, it’s really full of fun and very impressive that the Monkey King could quickly shift from one place to another. So I think I will apply this approach to our opera performances.”

She also noted that with abundant compassion and pure beauty, the high-standard Shen Yun performance has provided inspires her and other artists around the world.

Before leaving, she pointed out, “In fact, nowadays there are few stage designs that are so simple, precise and impressive like Shen Yun’s. From Shen Yun, I have learned how to use backdrops to show 3D images and its effects. I will try to apply this innovative technique to my future creations.”
