SAN FRANCISCO—Barry Groves, a high school superintendent, and his wife, Julie Groves, attended Shen Yun Performing Art’s ninth and last performance in San Francisco at the War Memorial Opera House on Jan. 12.
“I like the high quality dancers. Both the male and the female leads have been great,” Groves said.
With its performers from around the globe, from Kharkov, Ukraine to Sydney, Australia, Shen Yun’s artists are united through a passion for ancient Chinese culture.
Established in 2006, Shen Yun’s main goal is to revive traditional Chinese culture through performing arts, combining dance, digital art, and music into one spectacular show.
Mrs. Groves said, “I’m surprised that I thought I would like the Western music combined but I think I want even more of the Chinese sounds.”
Bridging the East and the West, Shen Yun’s Orchestra combines classical Western and classical Chinese instruments in order to create its extraordinary flavor. Many people have been intrigued by the pleasing harmonies of Chinese instruments such as the suona, pipa, and the erhu, all of which are included in the performance’s live symphony.
Groves concluded by saying the show had “just been very fun, very enjoyable.”
