THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.—Insurance agent Carlene Faerber was reminded of heaven and the divine when she watched Shen Yun at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, with her husband Gordon on March 16.
“My husband and I are Christians. But believing in heaven is something we do believe in, and we believe that God’s love is universal and so accepting that my job isn’t to judge—my job is to love people,” Mrs. Faerber said.
“And I love that [Shen Yun] got their information across in such a beautiful way.”
It was this beauty that attracted Mr. and Mrs. Faerber to the performance.
“You could really tell that they loved what they were doing … I really got that,” Mrs. Faerber said.
“And I realized that it was so important for them to get their culture and their history out. It was one of the things that motivated us to see it.”
Mr. Faerber, an investment advisor, said that when the Chinese started coming into the United States at the turn of the century, people called them “Celestials.”
“And I thought that was real fascinating. I read that in a book and I’m thinking that this ties right into that,” Mr. Faerber said.
“I know atheism and evolution is a problem,” Mr. Faerber said, adding that the CCP’s destruction of the Chinese culture has occurred for many years, with aspects of this still taking place today.
Moreover, Mrs. Faerber was a bit emotional after seeing the performance.
“And yes, we believe in angels. The winged angel that came in really was sweet. They did a good job.”
