SACRAMENTO—Chemistry professor Nosheen Gothard has been attending Shen Yun Performing Arts every year since she discovered the performing arts group three years ago and said every single vignette in every program is amazing.
“Every story is really fascinating,” said Ms. Gothard, adding that she particularly enjoys the heavenly scenes and moments involving the divine.
Traditional Chinese culture is a divinely inspired culture, and it is New York-based Shen Yun’s mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through music and dance. As the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, Shen Yun’s dancers are trained in one of the world’s most comprehensive and expressive dance systems, with a lineage of thousands of years.
Ms. Gothard said that throughout the performance, she would momentarily realize that not a single word had been said as the artists, through beautiful dance and music and an animated backdrop, conveyed stories spanning five millennia.
“You don’t realize they’re not talking and they’re able to communicate with you. I think that’s the most fascinating part, and I just can’t get over it,” she said. “The whole time, I keep reminding myself, oh no, they’re not talking. They’re not using words. They’re just telling you everything.”
“You really get every single thing that they’re trying to show with dance,“ she said. ”Beauty of dance.”
Ms. Gothard said it was a performance she recommended others experience for themselves.
“Each artist is just beyond amazing. And every time you come, you get to watch different stories. So every time is a very unique experience,” Ms. Gothard said.
“It is so, so much fun to watch,” she said.
