COSTA MESA, Calif.—Company Vice President Ivonet Gomez attended Shen Yun Performing Arts for the first time on April 15 at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
A former dancer herself, Ms. Gomez had deep appreciation for the talent and skill of the performers.
“I really enjoy it when I see beautiful artistry,” she said. “I definitely appreciate what I see on stage in terms of the expertise and the [techniques.] It’s beautiful—the culture and the storytelling.”
“I love the bright colors, I love the [3d animated] scenery, and the way that it’s [matching] how the dancers danced—I really enjoy that.”
For millennia, China’s civilization flourished under the shared belief that the divine will bless those who uphold traditional moral values. Tragically, within just a few decades of the communist party’s violent takeover, these beliefs were erased and replaced with atheism.
The mission of these artists is to return to the world’s stage—the glory and beauty of China’s 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.
“I wasn’t aware of a lot of the Chinese culture, and it’s very interesting, very beautiful. I’m learning a lot,” she said.
“I love that integration of spirituality and the real life— how it mixes both worlds. As someone that’s definitely spiritual, I appreciate how it’s visually showing the integration of the heavens, the people, and the earth. I love that.”
Moreover, Ms. Gomez liked how positive the artists’ story-based dances are and was happy to see “lots of life lessons in the show.”
The most memorable piece for her featured an old general turned schoolmaster who teaches his mischievous students a valuable lesson about respecting and learning from their elders—though age may slow the body, he still has loads of wisdom to teach them.
