HAMILTON, Ont.—Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted the audience at the First Ontario Concert Hall on April 15.

Doug Martin, a retired IT director, said: “It’s a wonderful show, unbelievably talented people. I don’t know how they do it. I think it shows the dedication of so many people and such a beautiful civilization. Really worth protecting.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese classical culture before communism. Unfortunately, Shen Yun is banned in China.

Mr. Martin held hope that China and the world would dispose of the evil of communism.

“I’m a great admirer of Chinese civilization. I took Chinese history at university. It’s a tragedy what’s happened to China. But there’s a lot of hope. People are maintaining culture. And you know the communists will fall eventually,” he said.

Shen Yun’s 3D patented backdrop has audiences in awe as it works with the performers, who seem to jump in and out of the screen in the story within a dance.

“I love that effect,” Mr. Martin said. “They’ve done a wonderful effect there. I’ve actually seen it once before. I can see how it keeps improving. The way it’s integrated into the stories and the way the dancers time it. It’s really quite marvelous.”
Shen Yun also features a live orchestra with a combination of Western and Eastern instruments. Singers also perform using the traditional bel canto technique. They sing in Chinese as the lyrics are projected on the backscreen in English.
Mr. Martin enjoyed this part of the program. “The music’s just outstanding,” he said. “The way that it combines Western and Chinese music. Just how it integrates into this program, it’s truly beautiful.”

“I don’t know how she hit those notes. What a powerful singer,” Mr. Martin said, referring to Shen Yun’s soprano. “I really loved it. I just loved her. A very talented lady.”

He had encouraging words for Shen Yun’s performers: “Keep going. Like I say, Chinese civilization lasted thousands of years. It’s still around. And the communists will go. So keep it up because someday you'll be performing in China.”

Mr. Martin held hope that traditional Chinese culture would find its way back to the “Land of the Divine.”

“I think Chinese civilization is still alive and well, even in China; it’s just waiting to come back. And you can bring back things that people have been denied—You know, their own culture. I think you'll be amazed how quickly it comes back. People keep quiet, but they know,” he said.
