This is the adorable moment a tiny cat joined a pair of hikers on their trek to the summit of a 3,073-meter (approx. 10,000-foot) Swiss mountain.
Cyril and Erik Rohrer were on their way up Mt. Britsen in Switzerland when they were joined by the lost kitten.
“Bristen is one of the longest Skitours in the area,“ Cyril from Sachseln, Switzerland, said. ”It was 4:30 a.m., at around 1200m, when we heard a cat in the dark forest. She made a really scared and confused impression.”
The cat had wandered away and ended up on the slopes of the mountain and followed the hikers right to the top.
“But we couldn’t get rid of her while walking uphill. So she stayed with us up to over 3000msl,” Cyril said.
The cat started to shiver and her paws began to bleed due to the snow, thus the hikers picked her up and carried her occasionally when she was too exhausted to walk.
“We were definitely confused. I felt really sorry for the cat. She was really exhausted on the ridge underneath the summit,” Cyril said.
Luckily, another group that had overtaken the Roher at the peak managed to take the cat back down to the valley and help her reunite with her owners.
It was later discovered that the cat had been missing for four days, and two days before she had joined Cyril and Erik on their trek, she had followed other groups as well.
“So she has been up there three times!” Cyril said. “Animals do weird things. And they are way tougher than humans. They'll never give up. Even though they are hurting really really bad.”
