After an unlikely hero stood up to a street harasser on a woman’s behalf, she shared the anecdote online, touching thousands of hearts.

Julia Price, a songwriter, was running on her usual route one afternoon when a cat-call interrupted her stride. “I heard an older man yelling loudly enough for me to hear through my headphones,” she wrote on a Facebook post.

The man was yelling, “Sexy lady. Hey hey hey, sexy lady!” He didn’t relent, despite Price’s decision to keep on running.

“This ignoring seemed to really annoy him,” said Price, “so he lashed out and said, ‘[Expletive] you, dumb [Expletive].’”

The man, she noted, was smartly dressed and appeared to be taking his lunch break from a white-collar job. His profanity was Price’s breaking point. However, she was removing her headphones and preparing to confront the cat-caller when a little voice chimed in from the sidewalk.

“[T]his little boy who was walking alongside his mother and little sister in a stroller looked at the guy,” Price regaled.

“He said, ‘Hey. That is not nice to say to her and she didn’t like you yelling at her. You shouldn’t do that because she is a nice girl and I don’t let anyone say mean things to people, She’s a girl like my sister and I will protect her,’” Price recalled.

The little boy’s brave statement had the desired effect. The man, shamed, gathered his lunch and left. Price asked the mother if she could hug her son, James, to thank him for his intervention.

“I told him how grateful I was for him,” said Price. “He just shrugged and said, ‘Well, I just wanted to make sure your heart was okay.’”

Price, “touched,” ran home filled with gratitude for all parents raising their children to be courageous.

Alluding to that special moment, Price told Runner’s World: “I’ve never experienced someone standing up for me or seen anyone standing up to [a cat-caller], so I was kind of in shock a little bit, in a good way.”

Speaking to The Epoch Times via email, Price said that she hasn’t kept in touch with James since their interaction, although she wishes she had done so. “[I]t was one of those quick moments that I later recapped on social media,” she said, “and had absolutely no idea it would blow up.”

To date, Price’s Facebook post has been shared more than 173,000 times. “I’m just glad it’s affected as many people as it has,” she reflected.
