New to the Tribeca landscape is Daruma-ya, a Japanese izakaya and soba house, located just above sushi bar Sushi Azabu. Soba is taken seriously here—soba master Shuichi Kotani, who has taught Joel Robuchon, makes the delicate noodles by hand from Japanese buckwheat.

Both hot and cold soba dishes are served; signatures are duck soba, Japanese Bottarga soba, and sashimi soba.

Chef Nobuhito Dosei crafts small plates and entrées (marinated octopus, sweet corn tempura, stewed pork belly, for example) that are meant to be paired with plenty of drinks for a most merry time. The full bar includes sake, beer, wine, Japanese whiskeys, and cocktails.
