Viral videos have proven that pets can detect, and will protect, the prenatal lives growing inside their pregnant owners.
We’ve seen it before. Loyal dogs can sense unborn babies even in early gestation. So, dad beware! These protective pups will nip and growl at anyone who gets too close to that baby bump or ripe round belly.
Who’d have imagined orangutans could sense the same and at the zoo, no less? Now evidence appears to attest to this, as a man recently posted a video taken at Singapore Zoo online, showing just that.
A couple in their 30s, Ihsahn Mohd and his wife, Samantha, were visiting said zoo on July 8 when they encountered a mature male orangutan named Charlie.
The perceptive primate appeared to intuit the life growing inside Ms. Mohd, who was 38 weeks pregnant at the time. Her husband recalled the awe-inspiring moment when the orangutan recognized the presence of their unborn baby (who has since been born, we learned).
“The orangutan was already near the viewing area when we came,” Mr. Mohd told The Epoch Times. “When we went close to take some pictures, it suddenly came up to my wife and looked at her belly.”
As Ms. Mohd got nearer the glass panel, something remarkable happened.
“It started to press its ears against the glass directly to her belly,” Mr. Mohd said. “That’s when I started to video the moment you see.”
Mr. Mohd had observed such behavior before, but only in viral videos online, and was caught off guard when it happened to them.
He said they felt privileged to “just soak in the magical moment with Charlie.”
It was “humbling,” he added, that such an “amazing and strong creature” could express such love—and toward an unborn human being.
“This experience really meant the world to us,” he said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that no amount of money can buy.”
