A Texas single mom and her silky-haired, photogenic cat named Summer share a special “mama bond.”
Summer, a chocolate lynx mitted ragdoll, loves to show off her kittens to Pearl’s baby. And Pearl remembers every moment of it.
Pearl, a 24-year-old full-time engineer living in Fort Worth, Texas, was home with her now 1-year-old daughter, Blossom, when she saw Summer bringing her kitten to Blossom for the first time; she captured the sweet scene on video.
“I thought it was very cute and sweet that Summer wanted to show off her kitten to my baby," Pearl told The Epoch Times.
“Summer was upstairs in the kitten room with her kittens. That day, I left the door to the kitten room [opened] and Summer jumped out of the playpen with one of her babies, carrying it down a flight of stairs and straight to Blossom.
“I heard her walking down the stairs and that’s what prompted me to start recording. I was a little sad the kitten couldn’t stay down there, but they weren’t litter trained at the time.”
Pearl, who has a TikTok channel called Pearls Ragdolls where she shares videos of her ragdoll cats, returned mom and kitten back upstairs after the video ended. The video has been watched almost 17 million times on TikTok. Pearl has 1.2 million followers on the video sharing app, and 111,000 on Instagram.
“The response was very positive after the video was posted,” she said.
Pearl said that Summer attempted a few more visits to Blossom with one of her kittens.
“It happened a few other times, if I happened to leave the door open again,“ said Pearl. ”Summer is a sassy but loving mama. She likes things being done her way. I think she was a little bummed when I kept taking her babies back to the kitten room.”
Summer is almost 3 years old and has been with Pearl since she was 14 weeks old.
One of the largest domesticated cat breeds, ragdolls are known for their super friendly and affectionate nature. They love being handled—hence their name, since they will often flop and turn to butter when stroked—and adore their human families, including kids.
“It truly is amazing the bond pets can form with tiny babies,” Pearl said.
“Don’t forget to cherish those moments before they grow up. Now my baby Blossom just had her first birthday and all Summer’s babies have gone to their new forever homes. Time really does go by fast.”
