VIDEO: 110-Year-Old Grandma’s Funny Response When Family Reminds Her of Her Age

Updated:

A 110-year-old great-great-grandmother is tickling funny bones with a hilarious response to learning her age on her birthday.

Ruth Fear of Washington state, born in 1911, has survived two world wars, the Great Depression, and now a global pandemic. She celebrated her birthday in December last year among family and friends. Despite knowing it was her special day, the supercentenarian had no idea quite how many decades she had amassed.

In the sweet footage filmed by Ruth’s granddaughter, 47-year-old Teri Trayan, Ruth clarifies, “You get older on your birthday?” Teri tells the birthday girl, “Yes, how old are you?” to which Ruth replies, “I have no idea.”

When Teri breaks the news that her grandmother is 110 years old, Ruth is incredulous. She needs her granddaughter to repeat the number, twice, before finally exclaiming, “I don’t believe that!” with a shake of her head.

Teri counters, “You look like you’re 21, and just as beautiful as ever!” Ruth replies with a smile, “Why, sure!”

Ruth’s great-granddaughter Alyssa Lugo, 27, says the beloved matriarch’s annual birthday parties have always been “epic” and bring their huge five-generation family together, reported NewsFlare. She hails Ruth as a wonderful role model.

Alyssa, from Sunnyside, Washington, said: “This year, she got sent so many cards, flowers, and cakes; she is a very popular lady. Her reaction to finding out she was 110 is priceless, and it’s a video we'll cherish forever.”

Ruth doesn’t have dementia, said Alyssa, but she does get confused sometimes. “Her age is affecting her memory, but who can blame her! She’s more or less with it all of the time,” she said.

Augmenting her status as head of their five-generation family, Ruth is also great-great-grandmother to Alyssa’s son, 3-year-old Julian, who will no doubt enjoy the funny footage of Ruth’s 110th birthday reveal in years to come.
