The Vendy Awards celebrate its 10-year anniversary this year. Known as the “Oscars of street food,” the Vendy Awards is a cook-off among New York City’s sidewalk chefs.
Tickets are now on sale for the Sept. 13 awards, to take place on Governors Island from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $95.
Proceeds benefit the Street Vendor Project, a membership-based nonprofit organization that advocates for vendors’ rights.
Finalists, who are selected from public nominations, have been announced in three out of five categories: Rookie of the Year, Best of Market, and Best Dessert.
For the Rookie of the Year awards, the finalists are: Big D’s Khao Cart (Thai and Vietnamese), Gogo Grill (American and Mediterranean), Dub Pies - the Pie Truck (New Zealand-style savory pies, sausage rolls, and espresso coffee), Shanghai Sogo (Asian “tapas” and dumplings), and Snowday (maple syrup and French Canadian-inspired food).
