Films centered around individuals facing serious illnesses often strike a chord with audiences, as they offer both hope and inspiration despite challenging circumstances.
Based on true events, “Until Forever” tells the story of Michael Boyum and Michelle Larson, who as young adults decided to marry despite Michael’s battle with leukemia and his uncertain future. The film is strengthened by strong performances from its lead actors, Stephen Anthony Bailey as Michael and Madison Lawlor as Michelle.

Against All Odds
The story opens on a tender note, with Michael teaching karate to eager students at a park. Michelle enters the scene, and the two are instantly spellbound by each other. These initial moments focus on the blossoming connection between Michael and Michelle, as they come to see each other as soulmates. However, during a casual outing, Michelle notices Michael frequently rubbing his neck. Though he assures her that a doctor has examined him, he tells her it’s likely just a virus, and further tests are needed.
Michael’s health takes a turn, however, and he is diagnosed with leukemia, requiring immediate chemotherapy. Michelle stands by his side, offering support and comfort. Michael remains steadfast, viewing his hospital stay as an opportunity to uplift and encourage others.

Soon, Michael, Michelle, and their loved ones gather in the doctor’s office to receive grim news: Michael has a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. Despite the shock, the group maintains an optimistic outlook, except for Michael’s brother, Matthew (Jamie Anderson).
Love, Loss, and Faith
One of the most gripping aspects of the film is how Michael navigates the emotional rollercoaster of remission, only to face the devastating news that his cancer has returned.
When all hope seems lost, Michelle steps forward with unwavering devotion, believing that she and Michael are soulmates brought together by God. Michael, however, fears the heartbreak that could come with their love—especially for Michelle, who would have to face life as a widow.
Another standout character is Mr. Fenton (James Stephens III), a fellow hospital patient whose past hardships have led him to lose faith. His conversations with Michael about belief and doubt add depth to the story, and their friendship, built over spirited debates and games of Yahtzee, is one of the film’s quieter yet most touching elements. The film balances its heavier moments with humor and heartfelt interactions, keeping it from becoming overwhelmingly somber. While it doesn’t shy away from tough subjects, including brief mentions of suicide, it avoids gratuitous violence or and unnecessary sensationalism.
“Until Forever” is a wonderfully moving story that will leave an impact on anyone, no matter their beliefs or background.
