Many math enthusiasts will attest to some of the mysterious phenomena to be discovered in numbers. There are many card tricks that bewilder the senses by making use of such math to pull off what seems impossible. This magic color math trick also seems to defy common sense, as it appears to be able to read your mind.
Give it a try for yourself.
Simply pick a number below between 1 and 30 and then watch for the number in the subsequent color fields, keeping track of the colors where that number appears again as you scroll down the page.
Step 1: Pick a number (for example, 30)
Step 2:
Look at the color field below and see if you can find the number you picked. If you find it, remember the color yellow. This will be important later on in the test. In the case of the number 30, it isn’t there; in that case, you do not need to remember the color yellow.Step 3:
Repeat the same operations as step 2, looking for your number in the color field below and noting its color only if that number appears. In this case, our number 30 is there, so we'll need to remember the color orange for the finale.Step 4:
Repeat the same step here. We find our number 30 on the first line, so we'll need to note the color purple along with our previous color orange.Step 5:
Now we’ve got the hang of it. Repeat the previous step. Again, we see the number 30 on the first line, so note the color red in addition to purple and orange.Step 6
Last but not least, we return to green. Repeat the previous step. The number 30 is here again, so in addition to red, purple, and orange, we must remember the color green.Final count
Now prepare yourself for the magic. By assigning a numeric value to each color, as per below, add up all of the colors that contained your number and see what the result is.Yellow = 1 Orange = 2 Purple = 4 Red = 8 Green = 16
If you’re doubtful that the “magic” trick will work with other numbers, go ahead and give them a try as well. For example, if we choose the number 15, we see that it appears in the yellow, orange, purple, and red color fields, but not in green. So if we add up the colors, yellow (1) + orange (2) + purple (4) + red (8), we get 15, just like magic! Go ahead and impress your friends and family for fun or at a party.
