In a heartwarming rescue, an officer in New York has adopted a dog she helped save from a hot car in Manhattan.
The police immediately responded and discovered a distressed dog inside a hot car with windows shut.
A video clip posted to the tweet shows the officers cracking open the vehicle window, freeing the dog, and providing it with water and treats. They then took the pup to a vet.
In a follow-up message, NYPD wrote: “Yesterday’s afternoon temps hovered in the mid-80s & on an 85° day, it only takes 10 mins for the inside of a car to reach a deadly 102°.”
They also informed netizens that it was prohibited to leave an animal unattended in a car under such dangerous conditions. Fortunately, the pup was rescued and was being cared for.
The tweet went viral, amassing over 2,000 likes and many comments from netizens expressing gratitude to the officer for giving the pup a second chance at life.
“Officer Maharaj is an angel amongst us,” wrote one of them. “Thank you for saving and adopting this fur kid!”
While another chimed in: “This is the happiest ending possible for this sweet dog!”
