Taylor Swift and Kanye West were rumored to be set to share stage at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards for the first time since the famous incident in 2009, but this never materialized.

However, Swift did perform solo her new song which is aimed at West, showing a clip of the infamous moment when he interrupted her speech.

“Some things you can’t speak of,” Swift sang, “but tonight you live it all again.”

She added that “everyone of us has messed up too,” offering sympathy to his situation.

After the event, West was universally criticized for the incident, and experienced a setback in his personal life, as well as in his commercial success. Even President Barack Obama jumped in and had strong words for West at the time.

However, Swift said she has since made up with the multi-platinum-selling rapper. “It’s all right, just wait and see. Your string of lights is still bright to me. You’re still an innocent,” she sang.

West was the final performer in the VMA ceremony and similarly had a song addressed toward Swift.

“Baby, I got a plan. Run away fast as you can,” he said, in reference to Swift.

West, over the course of the past year, has repeatedly apologized to Swift. He Tweeted that he wrote a song for her to perform as a token of goodwill. “"If she won’t take it then I'll perform it for her,” he said via his Twitter account.
