Android 5.1 Lollipop was released this week for most Google Nexus devices, including the Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10.

It’s taking a bit of time to roll out on the devices, according to Phandroid.com. However, users can manually install the OS on their said devices.

One will have to enable OTA files for their device. After that, click on the link down below. If you want to see your build number, go to Settings > About phone.

More information about installing the OS can be found here.

The update comes about four months Android 5.0 Lollipop came out.

According to Ars Technica, “5.1 seems to have eliminated many of the performance issues with the Nexus 6. When we initially reviewed the device, the Nexus 6 was slower at loading apps and switching tasks than the older Nexus 5 had been. With 5.1, the newer phone feels much snappier; with non-game apps, it can now keep pace with the Nexus 5.”

It adds: “On benchmarks, we’re seeing much higher random read and write scores on the Nexus 6 with 5.1; random read gets a 2x speed boost, while random write is a whopping 9x faster.”

Android Authority notes that the “dreaded memory leak” that Android 5.0 introduced has been cleaned up in 5.1. “While seemingly not as widespread, a number of users have continued to complain about RAM issues after updating to Android 5.1, causing apps and launchers to force close as the operating system consumes more and more memory. Fortunately, Google claims to have fixed the issue, at least internally,” the site says.

More improvements include a better way to handle the Interruptions feature introduced by Android 5.0, better device protection features, a feature in controlling notifications called the “until next alarm” option that lets you silence a notification, and a fix on heads-up notifications, according to Gizmodo.

There is also speculation Android 5.1 Lollipop might add a VPN service that lets one browse the Internet more securely.
