A Florida Sheriff’s deputy was brought to tears by what she calls “the best day of her entire year.”
First responders save people all the time. But it isn’t every day they get to see how a person’s life has turned out years after saving someone.
When Corporal Sherry Anderson-Rego stopped to pump gas at a local gas station, it was just another day.
She didn’t expect to be greeted by a 5-year-old girl, whose life she’d saved while on the job three years prior. Her mother followed close by to witness the remarkable reunion.
When the little girl, whose name is Gabrielle, was almost 2 years old, Anderson-Rego had revived her from the brink of death.
“Her mom said to her, ‘Do you remember your angel?’” the corporal wrote. “Why did she say this? Because just over 3 years ago I was giving her lifeless daughter CPR.”
There is no greater reward for a first responder than seeing someone they saved live a full life.
“This was such a blessed reminder why I do the job I do, and beyond grateful to the amazing agency I work for that believes in top notch training for their deputies and equipment to do our everyday tasks,” she said.
As it turned out, Gabrielle and her family were on their way to Disney World when the incredible encounter transpired.
“She was almost 2 and today she proudly shared she is 5 and on her way to Disney,” the officer added. “Enjoy your Disney weekend pretty girl, you left my heart so full today?”
Among hundreds upon hundreds of comments, many offered words such as “God bless you,” “Thank you for your service,” and “You ARE an angel!”
