A police officer in Georgia is being hailed as a hero after his quick thinking saved the life of a 14-year-old boy.

According to the Roswell Police Department, Officer Matthew Perry was driving his motorcycle down Norcross Street when he spotted the boy’s mother stopped in a turn lane, frantically honking her car horn and flashing her headlights.

Police spokesman Sean Thompson told Fox News, “The driver was definitely trying to get his attention.”

After pulling over, Officer Perry discovered that the driver, Monica Hickman, was in a panic because her 14-year-old son was choking in the passenger seat next to her.

Without hesitation, the officer pulled the teen from the vehicle and performed abdominal thrusts.

Thankfully, after a few seconds, the boy was breathing again.

Thompson commented that Officer Perry was in the “right place, right time.”

“Sometimes we get lucky like that, whether it’s crime or being able to save somebody’s life,” he added.

Luck or not, Officer Perry was able to help someone in need, and his quick thinking potentially saved a child’s life.

The Roswell Police Department thanked Officer Perry publicly on social media:

“Officer Perry was able to get the child out of the vehicle and quickly perform the Heimlich maneuver, effectively saving his life. After a few seconds the child was able to breathe again. Great job to Officer Perry!”

They included a reminder to always call 911 in any emergency situation.

“Remember, if you are ever in a situation where you need help, dial 911,“ they wrote. ”Our 911 operators are very good at walking you through any situation whether you require medical aid or police services.”

The community joined in thanking Officer Perry for his actions.

“This happened right in front of my street as I was pulling out onto Norcross St,” commented a local woman. “Very grateful for Roswell PD and how they patrol our neighborhood.”

One person called Officer Perry “Cool under pressure.”

Another said, “So thankful for all our officers do everyday!!”
