When a wounded dog was brought in to the San Antonio Humane Society, the staff were horrified when, upon taking an X-ray, they found over 70 shotgun pellets scattered inside her body.
Veterinarians also noted injuries consistent with being hit by a car.
Fortunately, the 9-month-old retriever, who has been dubbed “Tammi,” is well on her way to recovery. The Humane Society is searching for a home for her, and they’re hopeful she’ll have a new forever family in time for the holidays.
After arriving at the shelter on Nov. 2, Tammi underwent surgery and a month of physical therapy.
“The sweet pup underwent a specialized surgical procedure in our new Leeu Naylor Medical Building to repair her pelvis fracture and restore her mobility,” the Humane Society wrote. “Following her surgery, Tammi was sent to a loving foster home to recover.”
“After a month of rest and much-needed love and care, Tammi is now stronger and ready to find her forever home,” the group wrote.
Though she is ready for a forever home, Tammi will also need a family who can support her physical therapy and rehabilitation needs.
“She will still need some rehab to strengthen her leg muscles, which includes short leash walks and stretches,” the Humane Society added.
