Thanks to social media, a photo taken in West Bengal, India, on a rainy day made our day.

It was raining cats and dogs in Kolkata in mid-September, when local reporter Sayan Chakraborty, who was on assignment for Bengali daily Bartaman, spotted a pair of sopping-wet canines outside seeking shelter but unable to find any.

They were at a busy seven-way intersection, aptly named “Park Circus,” and the suffering dogs trudged out onto the roadway.

There, a local policeman was directing traffic in the rain, who himself was struggling to keep dry under his Kolkata Police-issue umbrella.

“They ran to the policeman and took shelter under his umbrella and he also allowed them to stay,” Sayan told The Epoch Times, touched by the kindness he witnessed. “That incident made me think: humanity still exists.

“I was mesmerized by the scene.”

Sayan didn’t let the opportunity slip by and snapped a photo of the grateful dogs huddled at the officer’s feet, taking refuge under his umbrella.

Afterward, it was published in the Bartaman newspaper, and the reporter posted the photo on Facebook, as well—but when the Kolkata Police reposted it on social media, it went viral.

Sayan shared, “I’m literally overwhelmed and thankful to everyone for giving beautiful reactions and appreciating my story.”

Telling The Epoch Times why such a photo is important, these days especially, he added:

“In today’s fast life, everyone is running, running, and running to survive. And this process is making us a little emotionless every day.

“So it’s a message to the society, that whatever you are doing, whatever you’re up to, always try to give a little effort to the one who needs it.

“It won’t harm but maybe you will find a piece of peace within.”
