Phil Collins, who has enjoyed great success as a member of Genesis and as a solo artist, released his first studio album in eight years on Monday.

The album, titled “Going Back,” reached number one on the Billboard UK charts after it was released.

The eight-time Grammy Award-winner drew upon the Motown and R&B hits that he enjoyed as a young man, and brought elements of those genres into his latest album.

“You have to take your hat off to Phil Collins,” UK’s Daily Express said in their review of the album, adding that “the 59-year-old singer zips through a selection of mostly-Motown classics like ‘Jimmy Mack’ and ‘Uptight’ with the verve, energy, and wit of a man reborn.”

“Going Back” also signifies a return to form for the 59-year-old English musician on the charts, as he hasn’t reached the top since 1998 when he released “Hits.”

Before that, he had four chart topping albums, including the wildly successful “Face Value” in 1981, which featured the still-popular “In The Air Tonight.”

As the drummer and then singer of Genesis, Collins and the band released six chart-topping albums.
