The 86th Academy Awards is a week away!
We can’t predict the winner, but we can expect a range of emotions and reactions from the winners.
Here’s a look back at 10 memorable Oscar moments.
Poised
Cate Blanchett
Memorable moment: Calm, dignified, and a cheeky call out to director Martin Scorsese for her son to “marry your daughter.” We should see another class act if she bags an Oscar for her performance in Blue Jasmine.
Judi Dench
Memorable moment: “I do think also that the best bit about the Academy Awards is being nominated,” says the elegant Dench. “You live in a kind of haze for several weeks, and the terrible thing is that somebody’s got to win.” Sums up perfectly how all nominees must feel.
Ecstatic
Martin Scorsese
Memorable moment: Scorsese advised his then seven year old daughter Francesca not to “jump up and down and make a lot of noise,” thought he’s visibly straining to do likewise! Will he *ahem* “let it go” this time if The Wolf of Wall Street wins?
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon
Memorable moment: Ben Affleck remarked that “losing would suck and winning would be really scary.” We can’t tell if they’re scared, but Ben and Matt are clearly over the moon in this clip.
Cuba Gooding Jr.
Memorable moment: The most enthusiastic Oscar acceptance speech. Ever!
Sobs
Gwyneth Paltrow
Memorable moment: Gwyenth Paltrow choking up while thanking her family will bring a tear to your eye.
Mixed
Meryl Streep
Memorable moment: Talk about emotions! Humor, gratitude, touched, overwhelmed, love in two minutes.
Whoopi Goldberg
Memorable moment: Whoopi Goldberg manages to simultaneously convey vulnerability and determined strength in this beautiful short speech.
Hmmm...
Marlo Brando
Memorable moment: Marlo Brando never showed up. Sacheen Littlefeather, president of the National Native American Affirmative Image Committee, goes on stage instead to politely refuse the Oscar on the Godfather’s behalf.
James Cameron
Memorable moment: “I’m king of the world!”
