These mesmerizing photos of the Milky Way have all been captured by one man from Canada who drives for hours to take pictures of the galaxy in its most beautiful state.
Gary Cummins uses his knowledge and experience to “chase down” the Milky Way—traveling for hours to capture the spectacular display against a host of iconic backdrops.
The 38-year-old, who used to live in Ireland but now lives in Toronto, has already “tracked” the Milky Way all over the world, taking captivating shots across Ireland, California, and Canada. He now hopes to do the same in Saudi Arabia, Europe, and more specifically Easter Island.
Gary, who works in construction to fund his unusual hobby, said: “There’s something very special about it. I can’t really put it into words.”
“Being out under the stars at night, wondering what’s out there is part of it,” he added. “Also telling a story and filling people’s imaginations with awe and wonder is another.”
He went on to further explain that it’s something you come to appreciate, no matter which part of the world you reside in.
Describing the process, Gary said that, initially, it was “tough,” as he wasn’t very well informed and had little knowledge about it. However, as time passed and as he went through more adventures, the process also became a lot “easier.”
Gary laments that, currently, he is not in the best location in terms of proximity.
“I have to drive for at least two hours to get to dark enough areas compared to my hometown in Ireland where I’m only twenty minutes away,” Gary said. “It’s just part of the journey I guess. If you want the shot you have to go get it.”
