A six-bedroom luxury home in New Zealand that was built out of 12 repurposed shipping containers just hit the market, and the internet is gushing over images of the interior.

The readymade two-story home was built by David Wade, who used industrial shipping containers to create the skeleton for the dwelling. Daily Mail reports that the containers cost just $5,000 apiece, making this a low-cost project for the home builder.

Featuring a high-ceilinged floor plan, three bathrooms, an infinity pool, a six-car garage, and a mother-in-law cottage, the striking home doesn’t seem like a building made of readymade industrial shipping materials.

The black exterior and large two-story windows give the home a modern aesthetic. Finished, the home is unrecognizable from the stack of containers with which Wade started with in October 2016.

“Sleek industrial design meets idyllic rural living,” reads the house listing on TradeMe. “The wow factor of this black beauty is apparent from the minute you drive down the road as its commanding presence sits atop landscaped terraces … looking north to unobstructed lush green hills and south to stunning lake views.”

The modern look is carried through in the interior—with interior designing by Wade’s wife, Mitch—which uses an open floor plan, polished floors, stylish fixtures, and chic lighting.

“The main living area is a perfect blend of industrial and elegant design featuring a stunning modern kitchen, two individual living zones, and a significant steel double staircase interlinking the 2nd storied living spaces. Natural light is prevalent throughout and serves to passively warm the polished concrete floors through expansive glass windows,” the listing boasts.

Even better, the home is situated on a lush 6,221-square-meter property with a huge backyard. Two hammock swings hang on the deck, which is accessible from a second living room.

Wade just listed the property for sale at the end of October 2020. The home is just a five-minute walk from Ohaupo Village and a short 10-minute drive to Hamilton and Cambridge.
