Police were called to save a kitten that was found trapped between the engine block and firewall of a vehicle in New York state.
The cat recovery operation later led to its adoption by one of the rescuers who responded to the call.
Officers of the Ramapo Police Department on May 26 found the tiny feline under the hood of a silver Honda on Lackawanna Trail in Suffern — a small village in Rockland County.
The department documented the rescue and posted about it on Facebook later that day, informing the public that the situation was resolved, the kitten now safe and in good hands.
The cat, guessed to be 4 weeks old at the time, has dark fur around his mouth, nose, and ears. Officers couldn’t help posing with him for pictures, which were also posted on the department’s Facebook.
“Kitten was not injured and is currently in the care of one of the Ramapo Police officers who was on scene,” they added.
That officer is Christine Winter, who adopted the kitten and named him Otto. He now joins her previously adopted rescue cat, Ella, as part of the family.
“I named him Otto and he’s been great,” she told The Epoch Times. “He’s about 8 weeks old now. He gets into everything so I’m starting to understand how he ended up in the car engine.”
She shared some recent photos of Otto, showing that he’s doing well.
