An adorable 105-year-old widow received over 1,000 birthday cards from strangers after her care home issued a heartfelt appeal.
Lilian Todd celebrated her milestone birthday on Oct. 13.
The grandmother, who has lived through 27 different prime ministers and five monarchs, was “shocked” after well-wishers from the United Kingdom, America, Australia, and Ireland sent her cards, cakes, and gifts to mark her incredible milestone.
“I didn’t realize I was so well known,” Ms. Todd said. “It was a lovely shock.”
Ms. Todd, who used to work in the printing industry, is currently a resident at Aire View Care Home, in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.
In the video, the centenarian revealed her secret to keeping fit and well was “living a good life” while also having a regular cup of tea “with two sugars.”
Ms. Burleigh said Ms. Todd was a “true treasure” who enjoyed sewing, helping people, and taking children out for walks.
The elderly woman used to go dancing every Friday night in Otley, West Yorkshire—where she lived for the majority of her life.
“She is the most adorable lady you will meet in your life,” Ms. Burleigh said. “She’s Yorkshire through and through.”
Ms. Todd was “overwhelmed” upon seeing the cards.
“We kept telling her she was a celebrity,” Ms. Burleigh said. “It’s just so good to know that there are so many nice people out there.”
As to her birthday celebration, Ms. Todd said, “The best part about it was all the ladies that helped make it such a special day.
“I couldn’t have done it without them.”
