DETROIT—Eighty cities, four continents, three dance companies, one incredible show; Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular promotes authentic Chinese culture, ancient myths, legends, and principles.
What began as a 7 show performance in 2004, saw more than 220 performances in 2008. The show is currently at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, MI. Why has Divine Performing Arts become such a huge success, experiencing exponential growth each year? Cheryl, the hospitality coordinator at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center shed some light on this subject, as she is a person who sees many shows come and go at the Center.
She started off by saying, “I like the fact that men dance like men and are masculine, unlike in ballet where they are feminine. The part I liked the most was when the Buddhas descend to earth.”
She continued, “The backdrops were SPECTACULAR. Everything from the smoke and fire to the flowers blooming and the trees…….it was just beautiful. And the dancers were very precise.”
Cheryl works with many famous stars in theater, dance, and opera. She mentioned that, “This group has been one of the nicest and easiest to work with. They were all very kind.”
