The dramatic moment a horse was rescued to safety by firefighters unfolded in the UK—after the equine fell into a river.
On Monday, April 1, Magenta the horse became stranded in a river after she was apparently “spooked” and threw her rider.
Photographs taken from the scene of the incident show the gray horse being hoisted to safety as firefighters used a harness and lift machinery to extract her heavy, wet body from the water at Throckenholt, on the Cambridgeshire-Lincolnshire border.

The crew, from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue, used paddleboards to get close enough to the frightened animal to secure her to a winch.
Magenta was returned unharmed to her owner after the recovery operation was carried out under the supervision of a veterinarian.

“Poor Magenta the horse needed the assistance of Peterborough and Wisbech firefighters when she became spooked by something while out on a ride, unseated her owner, and ended up in the river, unable to get out,” Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said in a statement.
“It was a happy ending though as crews specially trained in animal rescues used strops and lifting machinery, under the supervision of a vet, to get Magenta back on the bank and reunited with her relieved owner again.”
