A teenager with excellent swimming skills in Stockbridge, Georgia, recently saved a toddler from drowning in a swimming pool over Mother’s Day weekend.
Randy Brown, 13, was playing with his cousin in the pool when a woman came searching for her son, Kingston.
She went over to the poolside and was alarmed to see her 2-year-old son underwater, on the bottom of the pool. When she called out for help, Randy leapt into action without a second thought.
Randy dived into the water and, thanks to his excellent water skills, managed to pull the young boy from the bottom of the pool and to safety.
Luckily for Kingston, when the boy was back on dry land, CPR professionals were nearby and resuscitated the toddler.
Randy has attended swimming classes at The Swim Center in Stockbridge since early childhood and has developed considerable water skills.
Jennifer Hill, swimming instructor at The Swim Center, insisted that this incident was a perfect case to demonstrate why teaching young children basic swimming skills is so important.
At the moment when the young toddler was discovered at the bottom of the pool, according to Randy, there were no other trained swimmers on hand, and he knew he had to act.
Initially after the incident, he didn’t feel like the occurrence was that big of a deal, but admitted feeling some trauma the next day.
