There were celebrations at an animal shelter in Savannah, Georgia, last week, when every single dog was adopted, and the kennels fell silent for the very first time.
“Do you hear that!?!?!“ staff member Nina S captioned. ”That is the sound of every single dog in our adoption center being adopted!!!”
Animal shelters can be sad places at times and often reflect societal conditions. Sometimes pets get lost, or their owners disinterested; other times, economic hardship means that tough choices have to be made.
The Facebook post, which garnered over 1,000 likes and shares, continued, “This has never happened and we are thrilled to announce that every single dog as of 4.51pm this afternoon has been adopted!!”
Photos showed eager pups and thankful owners taking advantage of the drive-thru pet food pantry. During this tough year in general, and at this time of the year in particular, the need is great.
The aim is to keep the animals at home and out of the shelter, and remarkably, just a couple of days later, the shelter was able to share photos of rows and rows of empty kennels.
Many people commenting on the happy news shared photos of their own canine companions that came from that very shelter.
“No worries we will have more adoptable pets for you come tomorrow and even more this weekend! So come by the Humane Society for Greater Savannah Tuesday-Saturday 1-6 to view all of our adoptable pets!”Though there was cause for celebration this week, the Society will continue to work hard finding forever homes for as many of their residents as possible, with the aim, hopefully, to let silence fall in their halls.
