At around 3:30 p.m. on July 28, police responded to reports of a bear trying to cool off in a pool behind a hillside home in Southern California. The region has seen punishing triple-digit temperatures this summer.
Footage of a bear trying to beat the Los Angeles heat by taking a dip was captured by the home’s inhabitants. The animal is seen having no qualms about getting neck-deep in the sparkling blue pool, the footage shows, before making its way back over the wall.
The Burbank Police Department arrived on-scene and then proceeded to monitor the bear as it made its way up a nearby tree for a siesta, the police department told the Epoch Times via email.
The bear was still sleeping in the tree when the officers left the scene at around 6 p.m.
“This bear is beating the heat in Burbank!” they captioned, before providing a few tips about bear safety.
- Never feed or approach bears.
- Clean and store barbeque grills.
- Secure food, garbage, and recycling.
- Keep dogs leashed. Remove bird feeders and pet food.
- Keep bear spray handy.
“Poor baby it’s hot,” wrote one commenter.
“Smart bear,” added another, who appreciated the furry friend’s resourcefulness.
“This heat is unBearable for some animals,” wrote another one of the bear’s benefactors. “Stay cool out there!”
