Frustrated by “fake pockets” on her jeans, a first grader wrote to Old Navy after a class project on writing persuasive letters. The brand responded in kind.
“Dear Old Navy, I do not like that the front pockets of the girls’ jeans are fake,” she wrote. “I want front pockets because I want to put my hands in them. I also would like to put things in them.”
Kamryn signed off by asking the brand, “Would you consider making girls’ jeans with front pockets that are not fake? Thank you for reading my request.”
The Old Navy kids product team responded to Kamryn with an appreciation for her feedback. They also included a gift for the sassy 7-year-old: four pairs of jeans and jean shorts in her size. Best of all, all the jeans had deep pockets.
Kamryn’s mom, Kimberly Gardner, who is also one of Evening Star’s first-grade teachers, had only ever purchased Old Navy jeans with “fake” pockets. The product team, she said, emailed ahead to check her daughter’s size.
According to Good Morning America, Kamryn’s teacher, Ellie Jayne, calls her student “unstoppable.”
“It’s really exciting to see the world get a glimpse of her, fall in love with her, and be inspired by her passion,” Jayne said.
